Portal Frequently asked questions

 Hello from Moats & Associates!


We are excited to offer you our online portal system, NetClientCS.

With this portal you will have the ability to create a secure login to access prior US Tax information that we have prepared for you as well as giving you the ability to send/receive information to/from us securely opposed to sending it via email.  


Many clients in the past were hesitant of sending financial information via email because of security issues, so with the portal’s File Exchange feature, you can have the piece of mind that anything you send to us through the portal is secure.  You can send Word or Excel files, .pdf documents, and much more!


I also include a short question and answer section at the bottom of this letter to help with some of the more frequently asked questions we have received since launching the portal for tax year 2018.

Q: What is the portal for?

 A: The portal allows clients to securely log in and access prior tax returns we have prepared for them.  The portal also allows clients to send information to us more securely than via email.  We will also be using the portal to send our annual reminders.

Q: How do I register for the portal?

 A:  After completing your tax return, we will upload it to your portal and send you an email containing a link to register.  Upon clicking the link, you will enter the last 4 of your Tax ID number (if applicable) and create a username (login) and password for your access the portal.  You will also have the option to setup a Multi-Factor Authentication where you link a mobile device to authenticate your login.

Q: After I register, where do I go to login to the portal?

A:  You can conveniently log in from our website www.Moats-Tax.com from the bottom of our home page.  I also included a button below for your convenience.  You can bookmark the login page for future use.

Q: I am a non-resident of the US, what is the last 4 of my SSN/EIN and where can I find it?

A: You can use the last 4 of your Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) which can be found at the top of any page of your tax return.  It should be shown as 9XX-XX-XXXX.  Please note, once the login has been created, you should not need to enter the last 4 of your Tax ID again and can simply use the created login/username and password. 

Q: Can I change my email address or login details?

A:  Yes, once you register and log in to your portal, click on your name in the top right and click Edit Account. 

Q: Can I remove Multi-Factor Authentication after I have set it up?

A:  Beginning November 2023, you are no longer allowed to remove Multi-Factor Authentication.  This adds a very strong layer of protection for you and your financial data and is required.

Q: Is the portal required?

A:  The portal is not required at this time, however it is a good resource to have if you need to go back and look at prior tax returns.  The portal also gives you the ability to upload information to us securely using the File Exchange feature. 

Q: What is File Exchange?

A:  File Exchange is where we can send you information such as tax return reminder letters, and you can securely send documentation to us and we will be instantly alerted to receiving this information.  For more information on File Exchange, you can click the link “File Exchange Overview” which can be found on your Home Screen within the portal, or by clicking on Links under the News & Information section below your folders and clicking “File Exchange Overview” under the Using your portal header. 

Q: Do my co-owner (husband/wife/business partner/etc.) and I need separate portals?

A:   By default we have all the owner’s returns in a single portal.  If we have sent the tax returns in the past to different owners individually, we tried to account for that and created separate portals for those owners.  If you are in a portal with someone else and want a separate portal, please let me know and we can accommodate on a case by case basis. 

Q: I got an error message "Sorry, there was an issue on our end. Please try again." What do I do?

 A:  Please try the following:

  • After you receive the message, try simply clicking the "Log In" button again
  • Disable your pop-up blocker
  • Add both secure.netlinksolution.com and www.Moats-Tax.com to the whitelist of your pop-up blocker program
  • Change your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, etc.)
  • Clear your browser cache

Q: I got an error message "Your account is locked. Please contact your administrator." What do I do?

 A:  Our portal allows up to ten unsuccessful login attempts before locking the account.   Once locked, an email is sent to the account holder which provides a link to unlock.  To unlock the account, follow the link in the email. If you do not receive the email, or do not follow the link to unlock,  the account will unlock on its own after 24 hours.  If it doesn't automatically unlock, please give us a call.
